This morning while watching the news I was reminded of the many famous women putting their two cents in over the last several weeks regarding McCain's VP pick Sarah Palin. I've heard comments ranging from "I have nothing in common with this woman" & "I hope she doesn't get the job in November" to disrespectful sexist ones I will not repeat.
Wait a minute!!! A woman is poised to be the 2nd in command of the U.S. and pretty much the free world and feminist American women aren't leaping for joy and shouting from the rooftops of their glee at this amazing fact???? I am in such disbelief that these same women yearn for respect, admiration, even power and yet when one rises to this level in politics she is met with
disrespect, disloyalty, and dishonor by human beings who share the same sex as she.
Could it be that feminism is a ruse? Could it be true that this movement which began decades ago is a facade for what is actually a movement encouraging women to shirk their responsibilities and demonize and demean the opposite sex while manipulating aspects of their humanity that are distinctly female for their own personal gain? I know that Hugh Hefner has definitely been guilty of capitalizing on things distinctly female, but feminists??? Never!!! Right?????
Wrong. Here we have a woman who without foregoing a husband and family has become Governor of Alaska and stood strong in the face of opposition by the opposing party as well as her own! She displays the epitome of strength and character and yet because she is pro-life has been left out in the cold by modern day "so called" feminists.
I for one am very happy about this turn of events in American political culture. I am glad the lid has been stripped off of a huge lie that has permiated through the last 30 years of American life and left most average American women feeling as though they are wrong to love a man and crazier still have a baby with this man even if the circumstances aren't favorable.
I am in no way trying to belittle women who have made the choice not to have a baby. I have spoken with many women who felt trapped and abandoned at a very vulnerable time and my heart went out to them and still does. However listening to the rhetoric of the left feminists as they exploit women at their weakest point to further the cause of abortion will only confuse these women more as they try to make one of the most important decisions of their lives.
So I'll close this rant by saying thank you to Sarah Palin for exposing the lies that have been shoved down America's throat for so long now. Any intelligent woman can do the math and realize how hypocritical the idea is that "Yes we want women to destroy the glass ceiling and yes we long for the day women are in positions of power and authority" when the reality is these
people want that on their terms and those include a woman who is a so called liberal thinker and
who defends a woman's right to an abortion at any stage of pregnancy.
Thanks Sarah for helping me to see clearly that feminism only came about to further abortion not to further women's liberation. Thank you for liberating my thinking that a woman could never possibly rise to be President in this country when in fact I believe I will see it in my lifetime.

you preach it girlfriend!
I agree-a liberal woman would have their total support. However this crazy family woman is not supported a bit.
This is not inconsistent though, they have never liked Bush either-he has family values and is a Christian. Clinton was heartily embraced though, he had the appearance of a family man but we all knew how he "really" felt.
Bravo...or should I say Brava!!!!
Such a thought provoking post. Welcome to the blog world. Look forward to reading more : )

Hey gurlie! Welcome to the world of blogging! :) If you need any help just let me know. I have been doing it since 2003 and I love it.
Ladies, please. Can you apply for a credit card in your own name? Can you purchase a car without your husband's permission? Can you accept a job without being asked that it's to do so from a man? The answer is "yes." Not long ago, before feminism this would not have occurred. Feminism was a movement that pointed out the wrongs of a male dominated society. Palin can only have achieved her status due to the efforts of feminism, not in spite of it. Feminism grants a woman's right to privacy, to have a child without government intervention or dictates. Feminism allows women to achieve jobs and cries out when they are not fairly paid. Feminism allows women equality of voice with men. Only when feminism is politicized for party agendas does it become bad. Criticize Palin or not, vote for her or not, march for her or not...it is because feminist have paved the way for you that you can.
Jon:
We have to define feminism first before we can agree with you. If feminism is the advancement of equal right for women then YES-thank you feminists! But if feminism is the pursuit to degrade men, lift women above men, advance abortion so as to demean motherhood - then NO, I am thankful at all for the work of feminists - no matter how much good they've done.
It's no different than socialism - we say we don't agree w/ socialism - we are a democracy! a republic! But then we willingly use government roads, schools, etc. I only want the good parts of feminism (and socialism) not the parts that encroach on my personal beliefs.
It is not BECAUSE of feminism that women have the rights available to us today that women before the 1920s did not enjoy. We cannot credit FEMINISM with our liberty; we credit the God who made us all equal. We credit our nation's forefathers who wrote those incredible words. The Civil Rights movement is more deserving of the progress women have made than Feminism is. The goal of feminism (as it operates today) is to degrade men and lift women up above them - not equal to.
